Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) / Physical Capacity Testing

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) or Physical Capacity Test assesses a person’s physical abilities in relation to the demands of their work role, supporting safe employment and effective rehabilitation. Proactive’s trained experts across New Zealand provide comprehensive, evidence-based assessments to help determine work fitness, guide return-to-work plans, and reduce injury risk.

Older Adults

We offer a service that is bespoke to your, or your families needs. Whether this entails injury and falls prevention, Physiotherapy services after a fall, stroke, injury, or other condition, planning and guidance of how to engage in and increase activity, Psychologist support for mental health conditions, chronic disease prevention or assistance with management, cardiac rehabilitation, rehabilitation after surgery or housing modifications and wheelchair seating needs, Proactive are the one stop shop for all your needs.

Pain Management

Following injury or illness, coping with persisting or chronic pain can be one of the biggest challenges that you face. Acute and chronic pain may originate from a fracture, lower back injury, nerve injury like Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), or result from diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS), gout, or post herpetic neuralgia (PHN). Sometimes it appears to have an onset without any of these being present. What we do know is that everyone experiences pain differently, and how you respond to your own pain experience differs one day to the next. The important point to remember is that at Proactive we are experts in managing and resolving pain, both acute pain from a recent injury, and pain that has persisted for longer than the expected healing time.

Pre & Post Surgery

Preparing for surgery can feel like life is on pause — but it doesn’t have to be.
Research shows that taking part in a pre-surgical rehabilitation programme can significantly improve physical function, pain management, and overall wellbeing before surgery. It can also lead to better long-term outcomes once your surgery is complete.

At Proactive, we offer a range of personalised pre-surgical rehabilitation programmes designed to support you through this time. Our programmes are delivered by experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapists and can be completed either in-clinic or via Telehealth. We work closely with your surgeon to ensure your rehabilitation aligns with your specific injury and surgical plan.

ACC funding may be available if your injury is covered by ACC.

Shoulders, Back and Knees

Feel stiff, sore, or out of alignment?
Your posture might be the hidden culprit. Rounded shoulders, a curved upper back, or a forward head can do more than just affect how you look — they impact your strength, breathing, focus, and even confidence.

A Postural Assessment identifies these issues and helps you move, breathe, and feel better every day. Don’t wait for pain to catch up — take the first step toward a healthier, stronger posture today.
